The Missing Link

As far as cell phones go, there are just as many types as there are people willing to buy them. Yet there are few luxury cell phones. Sure there's the Sidekick and the Meridiist, but in the end they are still mere pretenders to the throne when it comes to true mobile luxuriousness - mere microchips and processors coated in a shiny paint held within the hands of celebrities.

Enter the TAG Heuer 'Link.'

Created by renowned Swiss watch manufacturer TAG Heuer, the Link is without-a-doubt the king of luxury cell phones. At around $6,200 its also one of the most expensive phones on the market. The case of the 'Link' comes in steel, 18k rose gold, and titanium. Trim options include rubber, alligator, leather, and a few other materials. Like Tag Heuer timepieces, the phone also features a crown on the side. The 'Link' is certainly not a watch, yet it will tell you the time and it most certainly is constructed with the same level of craftsmanship and detail as all of TAG Heuer's timepieces.

But the 'Link' isn't just for looks. Running Android 2.2 - admittedly dated OS - this jewel also boasts a 16-million color screen resolution, a large 3.5’’ display, a high-definition 5-mega-pixel camera, 11 hours of music play time, and access to over 250,000 applications on the Android Market -er Google Play. It also comes fully loaded with a host of TAG Heuer add-ons: customized screen designs, widgets, animations, wallpapers, icons and a few ring tones.

TAG Heuer has set the bar for luxury cellular devices. With little competition it looks as if the 'Link' will continue to reign as king. But when it comes to technology time itself warrants innovation - expect more to come from the Swiss watchmakers.
