The Artefact

New technology always excites us, but the below conceptual product by award-winning design team Artefact has us down-right giddy. Meet codename "WVIL."

WVIL, short for Wireless Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens, is an astonishing conceptual camera design that aims to merge the "connectivity and application platform capabilities of today's smart phones and wirelessly connect them with interchangeable full SLR-quality optics." Basically, imagine if your full-frame DSLR could do everything your smartphone does (minus making phone calls) and still serve as a high-end camera system.

Everything about this system is revolutionary, but rather than bore you with words, here is a video that demonstrates a lot of the camera's capabilities.

Right now the system is just a concept, but we imagine it can't be long before these actually see the light of day --- especially since all the technology required to make it already exists. With things like WVIL and the Lytro Camera System coming into play it's safe to assume the field of photography is changing. Whether that is a good thing or not, only time can tell.
